In every generation, God has called His people to prepare for what lies ahead. Whether it was Noah building an ark for a flood never before seen or the Apostles waiting in the upper room for a promise they could not yet comprehend, obedience was key. The principle remains the same across time, God honors those who trust Him and prepare in faith. Obedience in preparation is a timeless lesson that ensures God's people are ready for His plans.
Noah’s Obedience in Preparation
Noah lived in a time when wickedness consumed the earth. Yet, amidst the corruption, he found favor with God. He received a command from God to build an ark. Noah did not question, (Genesis 6:22) hesitate, or demand proof—he simply obeyed. This preparation was not only for himself but for his family and for the preservation of life on earth. His readiness and obedience ensured the survival of his household and established a new covenant with God.
The Apostles’ Preparation for the Promise
Jesus instructed His disciples to remain in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father—the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Though they did not fully understand what to expect, they chose to obey. Their obedience positioned them to receive the power that would give birth to the Church and ignite the spread of the Gospel across the world. The upper room became their ark, a place of waiting and preparation where their faithfulness led to an outpouring that changed history.
Their season of preparation brought transformation, not only for themselves but for the thousands who heard the Gospel that day. This serves as a powerful reminder that readiness invites divine encounters. When we prepare our hearts through prayer, fasting, and the study of God’s Word, we align ourselves through obedience to experience the Holy Spirit’s movement in our lives and communities.
Daily Preparation in Our Time
God still calls His people to prepare, not only in the natural but in the spiritual realm. Each day He grants us life is an opportunity to be ready. We do not always see what lies ahead, but just as Noah and the Apostles trusted God’s instruction, we must also trust and obey.
Preparation in the natural may look like working diligently, stewarding resources wisely, and caring for our families. Preparation in the spiritual realm involves prayer, studying God’s Word, and seeking His guidance. When we heed His voice and walk in obedience, we align ourselves with His will and remain ready for whatever He calls us to do.
A Call to Trust and Obey
Noah and the Apostles had one deeply rooted trait in common: unwavering obedience to God, even when His commands seemed unusual, challenging, or beyond human understanding. Their faith was not dependent on visible evidence or immediate rewards but was rooted in complete trust in God's wisdom and faithfulness.
Noah, for instance, was commanded to build an ark in preparation for a flood when there had been no precedent for such a catastrophe. He endured ridicule, isolation, and years of labor, yet he followed God's instructions without hesitation. His obedience led to the preservation of his family and the continuation of life on earth.
Similarly, the Apostles were called to leave behind their livelihoods, families, and all that was familiar to follow Jesus. They preached the gospel in the face of persecution, imprisonment, and even death, trusting in the promise of eternal life and the fulfillment of God’s divine plan. Their willingness to follow Christ’s commands, no matter the cost, laid the foundation for the Church and spread the message of salvation to the world.
This same call to obedience applies to us today. God may direct us down paths that seem uncertain or even illogical from a worldly perspective. However, as the scripture in Numbers 23:19 reminds us, God is not like man—He does not lie or change His mind. What He has promised, He will fulfill. If He calls us to step out in faith, we can trust that He will guide, sustain, and bless us through the journey.
Jesus Himself likened the last days to the time of Noah, emphasizing how people would be distracted by everyday life, unaware of impending divine intervention (Matthew 24:37-39). This serves as a warning and a call to vigilance. Are we watching and praying? Are we building our spiritual “ark” through a deepened relationship with God? Now is the time to stand firm, walk in righteousness, and remain attentive to God’s leading.
Always Ready, No Questions Asked
Preparation is an act of faith. It demonstrates trust in God’s sovereignty and a willingness to align with His plans. Just as Noah’s obedience saved his family and the Apostles’ obedience birthed the Church, our obedience today positions us for God’s blessings and purposes.
The world is unpredictable, but God remains constant. He calls us to be vigilant, steadfast, and spiritually equipped. Every moment of life is an opportunity to prepare. Let us be a people who listen, trust, and obey—no questions asked.
May we be found ready when the Lord moves, prepared like Noah, and expectant like the disciples at Pentecost. The time to prepare is now!
We can trust Jesus.
