Answering the Call: What Can You Do for God?

What price are you willing to pay for God’s power to be real in your life? To see His people saved and set free? These are not just rhetorical questions—they are the heart of God’s call on our lives. Today, I want to talk about what it means to truly heed the call of God and walk boldly into the purpose He has set before us.

Jesus said to His disciples in Luke 10:2, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” This powerful truth still rings true today. Are we content to ask God to meet our needs, or are we willing to lay down our desires and ask, “Lord, what can I do for You?”

As the song declares so powerfully:

“Look what You’ve done for me.

Your blood has set me free.

It’s not a question of what You can do for me,

But what can I do for You, my Lord?”

A Call Amid the Ordinary

Throughout Scripture, God called ordinary men and women in the middle of their daily lives. The disciples were fishermen, tax collectors, and everyday workers. Yet, when Jesus called, they left it all behind—family, work, and comfort—to follow Him.

To the world, they were nobodies. But to God, they were chosen vessels. He saw their potential, not in their current state, but in what He could do through them. He didn’t leave them ill-equipped. Matthew 10:1 says, “And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.”

Jesus called them, discipled them, empowered them with His Spirit, and sent them out to declare, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 10:7).

They paid the price of leaving their comfort zones, their families, and their trades. In exchange, they experienced God’s power working through them to transform lives and advance His kingdom.

What About You?

The same God who called the disciples is calling you. He’s not asking for the most talented or the most prepared. He’s asking for the willing. He’s looking for those who are ready to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”

The question remains: What price are you willing to pay for God’s power to be real in your life? Will you lay aside your comfort, your plans, and your fears to step into the calling He has placed on you?

The harvest is great, and the laborers are still too few. But you have been chosen for such a time as this. God’s power is available to you—not for personal gain, but to bring His kingdom to a world in desperate need of hope, healing, and salvation.

Answering His call may cost you everything, but it will give you something far greater: a life that counts for eternity. The same Spirit that empowered the disciples is ready to work in and through you.

The time is now. Say yes to God, pay the price, and watch as His power becomes real in your life and in the lives of those around you. Will you step forward and declare with boldness, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand”?
